Letters to Leo...5-6 months

Dear Leo,

Gosh, I was just reading your previous post and you did a ton of growing up over the past two months.  You turned half a year old this past week and I just cannot believe how fast this time is going.  One thing that hasn't changed is your happy little self.  I've yet to come across another baby that is just so happy and content all the time.

Milestones/Special Firsts:
* 6 month stats:  16 pounds, 2.5 ounces & 27.5 inches long
*At the end of last post, you were just starting to sit up.  Well now you do everything sitting up and you're sure good at it.  We have a couple of balance falls here and there, but they're becoming more and more infrequent.
*You now lean forward and kick your legs out behind you to get into the crawling position.  We've noticed a few rocks back and forth and I don't think it will be long before you are officially on the move.

*You eat quite a variety of pureed foods now.  Prunes, carrots, and bananas seem to top the list.  While I'm sure you have your favorites, there aren't any you refuse to eat.
*We had our first family trip to Door County.  You loved Al Johnson's, especially because you were abel to eat your first table food - Swedish pancakes.  You were a champ camping, even though one of the days it was very windy and cold. You loved sitting by the fire and playing with Elle and Mia.  There were also lots of family members and friends taking their much anticipated turn holding you.

Things You Like Right Now:
*You love being my laundry buddy! You're still small enough that I can plop you in the basket and carry you upstairs like this.  We chat and play while mommy folds laundry in the kitchen.  You're thee best company.

* You still love your hikes in the backpack! We went to the Holy Hill Arts and Crafts Fair and people were just raving about how cute you were.  I even had a couple people ask to take your picture.  You also still enjoy being in the front carrier.  We go on lots of walks and your legs just kick, kick, kick.

*You're definitely starting to take more notice of Buckwheat.  He is so gentle with you and lets you do whatever  you want to him. You love to tug on his collar and his ears.  Whenever you are playing on the floor, he comes and plops down right next to you.

* You like your sleep, although it doesn't always happen in the most opportune places.  Snoozes in your high chair have been happening more regularly.  Eating can be exhausting!

Your Current Dislikes:
*You definitely are working on having patience when waiting for your food.  I'll put you in your high chair and you will watch me get your food out and mix it with cereal.  This comes along with your fair share of whines while waiting.
*You're attempting to start crawling and when you try to move forward - sometimes you face plant into the floor.  Of course a nose into the carpet doesn't feel good and you let us know.

Your Brother & Sister:
*Your brother started kindergarten.  We miss him like crazy during the day.  At times, he complains that Elle gets to do everything with you while he's at school.  He misses you and is sure to give you love any chance he gets.

*As you're getting older, you get to do more and more fun things with your brother and sister.  Add "baths", bedtime routine on the changing table, and swings at the park to the list! You're just mesmerized by their energy - truly learning from them every second.

* Elle always has your best interest at heart.  She continues to be very motherly.  Her favorite thing to do right now is stir your cereal into your food. She attempts to carry you around and even puts you in her stroller.

*Ari and Elle say all the time, "Leo just adores me." It's true - you do adore them and they adore you.

Your Daddy:
*Your Daddy has been busy with soccer as he recently started coaching Ari's team in addition to playing on his own team regularly.  We've had some pretty fun Saturday mornings watching soccer practice together!

*Daddy had a couple days off of work and he just loved his days with you. I was at work and was so happy getting the snaps of the two of you out exploring.  You went hiking with daddy and also had a couple of soccer sessions with your brother and sister.  He's sure missing his fall break as this is the first year on a new schedule.

Your Mommy:
*Mommy celebrated her 36th birthday and the best part was having all three of you to snuggle. We enjoyed a fancy dinner out as a family and you were all so well behaved.

*I find myself hugging you so tight, placing my cheeks right up to yours and saying to myself "I wish I could freeze this moment, freeze this feeling." While I'm having so much fun watching you grow and learn new things I wish I could bottle up your sweet innocence that comes along with this age. While I know you'll always love me, the way you need me right now just melts me.
*The to do list and chores never end...but I keep reminding myself that they will always be there and snuggles like this are short lived. I put may things aside to soak in these snugglefests with you.  I also spend hours just watching you sleep.

*I'll never forget one evening when I got home from work.  I had been out doing observations all day.  When I walked in the door you instantly starting kicking your legs in excitement.  I had a couple of things I had to put away first before I could swoop you up. When I finally did, you took both arms and just wrapped them around me so tight and hugged me for the first time.  You'd lift your head up, look at me, get this huge smile on your face, and then  hug me again.  You did this like five times and just held on so tight.  It was such a special moment.

We love you Leo.

Love,
Mommy
